THE COVENANT

In Halo 3 there is one main enemy, the Covenant. The Covenant are a warlike alien civilization that see humanity as a threat to their Great Journey. These are some of the members of the Covenant.

Grunts (Unggoy) - Grunts are the main form of infantry in the Covenant. While they are weak they can be annoying on the higher difficulty levels due to their skill at throwing grenades. During Campaign in Halo 3, once the brute or elite leader is killed Grunts will usually run scared.

Brutes (Jiralhanae) - Brutes are the leaders of the Covenant armed forces in Halo 3. They are apelike creatures that are extremely violent in nature. They have a pack mentality that leads them to fight in groups. Many of the weapons brutes use are weapons that they originally had when they joined the Covenant, like the spiker and spike grenades. The power armor of brute captains repels plasma and spike grenades.

Drones(Yanme'e)- The drones are the second most annoying thing you will encounter on halo just behind the sniping jackals. Play the halo 2 levels on legendary on the levels outskirts and delta halo for even  more proof. In Halo 3, they usually fly high above the ground, using plasma pistols and sometimes needlers. They always appear in large swarms, and although they are easy to kill alone, pack a difficult punch when together. Drones are mainly mercenaries and are not really to interested in the great journey. Drones do not appear often in Halo 3.

Jackal(Kig-Yar) - Jackals are a species you love to hate. More annoying than dangerous. In Halo 3 they can usually be seen using plasma pistols and personal arm shields. They best way to deal with them is to either beat them down or throw a grenade at them. However another method is to shoot them in the gun and then quickly in the head. However, this is the easy type of jackal. I bring forth exhibit A, the Sniper Jackal. Sniper Jackals are amazing shotters on the harder difficulty levels in Halo 3. Your first notice of a sniper jackal usually comes as a 12 mm round pierces your skull. Jackals can not be infected by The Flood as they don't have enough bone mass due to their avian nature.

Hunters(Lekgolo)
Hunters are the strongest of the Covenant forces. The Hunters do not appear as much in Halo 3 as they did in Halo 2. They are not solid forms, but rather a colony of wormlike beings figures that keep shape in armor. They're primary weapon is the laser on their right arms, which fires an easy-to-dodge, but very high damage ray of green plasma. If you get to close, they will charge. They always charge with their left arms leading, so dodge to the right. Their primary (and prety much only) weakness is the patch of exposed worms on their backs. They put up a fun fight. The best way to kill these monsters is a sniper to their back.

Elite (Sangheili)
They were once the leaders of the military in the Covenant, instead of the brutes. After finding out the truth of the halo rings, the Arbiter led the renegade elites away from the Covenant and over to the USNC. They are now allied with Chief, and prove good allies in battle from heroic down. Legendary, they die to quick. Normally armed with carbines, plasma grenades, plasma rifles, and other standard covenant sidearms, they are a good addition to the USNC.
