CONSTRUCT The grav lifts are more than elevators- used properly, they are excellent escape routes in tight situations. However, keep in mind that they can throw grenades up after you, so be sure to run from the land site as soon as you're up. Also, regarding the lifts, be aware that there could be people with close range weapons and plasmas camping the land spot, so never think you're safe when nearing the exit. Don't rely on your radar for this map. As there are several different levels, foes could be above or below you. be sure to keep an eye on your radar, but odds are they won't be on your level. Use the EMP's if you have a persuer and are approaching the central lift. If you can lure them up there, as soon as you land, turn around and throw the EMP in the lift and run like hell. Your enemy will be weakened and you can run around the corner for an easy kill. Do not linger for long on the main central platform, the one aboe the flame thrower. You are a sitting duck for attacks from above and below. Always stay on the move, or you WILL be sniped. The two beams that shoot out from the middle level can be walked up, and are good areas to have enemies saying "Where the hell was that guy?". They are also great ways to the energy sword spawn point. The basement is a scary place. Power weapons galore, but there are only small moments of calm before the people swarm seeking the flamethrower, missle pod, etc. EPITAPH Be careful when seeking the gravity hammer and rocket launcher. There may be snipers wishing to kill any seeking them. Get in then get out as fast you can. The rocket launcher platform is not steady. It will sway when hit by bullets and explosions. if you see someone there, manuever out of the missles they are sure to have and aim to blow them off the platform. Although you can throw the EMP to the platform from the grav lift, it won't land there. It will, however, completely obliterate their shields. Have a sniper on your team ready to shoot them when their shields go down. Be careful on the outer walkways. Grenades are deadly here, as those jumping to avoid them will be set off course by the blast and be thrown off the edge. The shotgun spawn point is great for defending the VIP in VIP matches. All exits are accessible to this location, but the VIP should not worry about this. Focus on being ready to move into the grav lift. The grav lift is an excellent escape AND leads to the bubble shield! Be sure that when getting the grav hammer, you grab it and take it to the overshield spawn point. with both of these, walk around the outer ledges and life will be smooth sailing till the overshield runs out. Be careful when walking out of the energy barriers in the doors, as there could be someone with the shotgun or gravity hammer waiting. If so, you are dead. GUARDIAN The bubble shield spawn point is an interesting place to trigger as soon as you get it. This is because, in order to get to you, they will have to jump. When landing, they are perfect for a melee attack. The gravity hammer is located in the center of the lower level, but the sniper rifle is just a bit down the hallway. This is deadly if you aren't the first person there, because in the process of getting the hammer, you could recieve a bullet in the head. Not an area for players of low skill. Get the gravity hammer and move it from the lower corridor sooner rather than later. It is great for ambushes around corners in the indoor area. Also, if you are on the ledges where you can fall into an abyss, swing the gravity hammer even before people get to you and they will hopefully be blown back over the edge. If anyone thinks they are safe from the gravity hammer behind the glass at it's spawn point, teach them the error of their noobish ways. hit them through the glass, killing them or seriously damaging them. The only sniping point on this map is the needler spawn point, but even that area isn't safe. you will have to destroy the fusion coil before you go in or you could be blown up from behind. secondly, you are completely unsafe from attacks from the rear. Thirdly, there is a gravity lift that lands right here. So, yeah. Snipers have it bad on Guardian. The center of the map is certain doom. Avoid as much as possible. The shotgun is placed at the far end of a dead-stop corridor, and if you don't get to the other side in time after you grab it, a player could just run over and shoot you before you can get up close and personal. The camo is the best friend of dual maulers, gravity hammers, and shotgun. Guardian is great for snipers, due to close quarters and the camo. HIGH GROUND The base area isn't exactly a safe place to be. There are three areas of possible breach. The pipe is a good way to get into the base, but it is very easily guarded by the defending team. Snipers are happiest around the beach, crouched in the water, and on the upper rock ledge. The ghost is best to take out the snipers, unless they are on the rock ledge. When attacking the base in objective based games, be sure to send in the ghost before mongoose raiding parties move in. Beware, though, because all of these vehicles are easy to stick with spike grenades. If defending the base, be sure to try out sending the ghost to destroy all the other teams vehicles every time they spawn. To blow open the trapdoor in the bunker, instead of shooting it or sticking it, drop a bubble shield on it. It is much quieter. If playing territories, place a grav lift under the trapdoor entrance to make it impossible for access from opposing team members. If you see someone trying to get it, throw a spike grenade in the lift and listen to the death scream play. With practice, it's possible to climb the branches on a few trees and hide as a sniper in the leaves. The top of the missle launcher is a good sniping spot, with a clean shot of the main gate. Be careful on the turret, as unless you are good at spotting snipers, they will spot you first. There is a hidden ledge over the wall from the spartan laser spawn point. It is a good escape route if the battle is not going your way and you want to launch a surprise attack. Be very cautious watching the pipe, as anyone coming through will be crouching and invisible on radar. In the room with the pipe exit inside the base, there are two metal beams that extend from the wall. You can jump on these and use them to launch surprise attacks. In the same room, there is a hiding alcove behind the pipe. It is easy to ambush new players and take them out with ease. ISOLATION outdoors Each bunker has a mongoose just outside. Be smart and use these to reach the power weapons as soon as possible, and be sure to take them back to your base, as these mongooses don't have speedy respawn times. Be sure to grab the brute shots near the ghost. they are excellent underground. Being in control of the ghost is excellent for your team. it is great for stopping FC's and defending your base. The best sniping spot is the northern end of the field, which gives a full view of the whole field and gives a great escape with the hole to the underground. You can climb these trees just as you can in High Ground. underground A rocket launcher sits in the center of the tunnels and is great for taking out the ghost. It is also great in the close quarters of the tunnels where there is minimal space for a side-step or a jump. Drop down the hole to the rocket launcher spawn point with the needler and wait. Anyone coming to get the launcher will have a nasty surprise. The brute shots are key weapons on Isolation, against vehicles above and people below. LAST RESORT For experienced snipers only: the center of the wheel is where it's at for killing people as they enter from the beach. It is for experts only becuase you must compensate for the movement of both the wheel and the person. If defending the base, secure the sniper rifle as soon as possible. If you are in a rush, you can knock the shotgun from it's spawn point by throwing a grenade up there. When seeking to secure the spartan laser, take the nearby needler first then move in and take the laser by force. The base area has a radar jammer. Use it wisely, and announce it to your team to avoid confusion. Used well, this will often win the battle. The arch on the beach is a good sniping spot along with jumping to the very top of the catwalk from the top of the arch. NARROWS The rocket launcher spawn point is dangerous in the startgame, where there are ugly fights over it. Wait a while then grab the respawned one. On the far ends of the main bridge, you can walk on the barriers situated at either side to jump directly onto the platforms beyond. If you can survive, the lower bridge is the fastest way to your opponents' base. It is very narrow towards the center, and has no cover. So, while it gives quick access, you are open to all attacks. Do not sit on the upper ridge as a sniping spot. there is way too much cover too hide behind. When flying from the man cannon, try and throw the bubble shield just before you take off, providing cover as you fly through the air. In CTF games, if you are about to die and are near the man cannon, make a last resort run there. throw the flag to the other side and hopefully a teammate will grab it and take it home. Throw equipment into the recieving side of a man cannon and it should hit your enemy mid air, slowing them and making them fall to their deaths. SANDTRAP The Elephant. An indestructible behemoth cappable of carrying several vehicles across the field, killing all it sees with those on board and the turrets. Be careful when driving, and always have someone watching your back, becuase you are very vulnerable from the back when driving. Be careful when driving the banshee. sometimes it is better to just blow it up then drive it, because that is what will probably happen soon after takeoff. What with missle pods, spartan lasers... flying the banshee on this map is not for the faint of heart or light of skill. Be sure to keep good control over all of your vehicles, as they are key components in this map. Odds are most people will be driving/riding/shooting. Sometimes, sending a chopper to camp enemy vehicle spawn points is a good strategy, particularly in territories games. The crashed phantom is an excellent way to hide from overhead banshees and persuing choppers/warthogs. It is also effective to hide there and camp. Remember that the brute chopper's cannons aren't all you need to worry about. If it turbos against a light vehicle, you are almost surely dead. Be wary of the fact that there is a gravity hammer... and there will probably be a kill or two scored by and ambush with it in the tunnels. Proceed in the tunnels with caution. Try not to stray onto open ground without a vehicle, or you'll be a prime target for snipers and other vehicles. Try and ride the banshee to the top of the main tower with a sniper rifle. Riding the banshee is tricky, but possible if the driver takes their time. In oddball, stay on a mongoose and in the minefield. The only thing to worry about is banshees and spartan lasers/missle pods. SNOWBOUND Never shoot at distant targets unless you have the beam rifle. Keep a low profile until you are sure you can secure a kill, as they can duck to cover and you alert your presence to snipers and the ghost. If you do get the beam rifle, swing by and nab the cloaking if it's available. As soon as you spawn, aim to swap the assualt rifle for the battle rifle or carbine. At medium range, you are doomed. Beyond the spartan laser base, you can get to a ledge just over the perimeter. This is a safe area, and an invisible barrier prevents the guardians from killing you. When moving inside either base, you can look up and see people through the transparent ceiling. With the shotgun, stay underground. This gun reigns almighty in the close quarters combat of the tunnels. THE PIT Be sure to have a battle rifle for those mid to long range exchanges. Also, for your other weapon, have something like the shotgun, mauler, or energy sword for close quarters combat. There are many plasmas on the map, so be sure to have one at the ready if approaching the sword room. Even if they shove the spartan-sticker through your gut, you can make it so they can't harm anyone else. Don't waste regenerators on regular skirmishes, especially in Assualt. Then, use them when arming the bomb. In the center of the map, there are plasma pistols and magnums, and these are incredibly potent weapons against sinlge foes. If you have these in a one on one, you are sure to win unless you are a crappy shot with the magnum. VALHALLA The battle rifles and plasma grenades in either base have very short respawn times. Unless your team is taken from behind, it's best to wait and grab the respawns. Under the rock arch at the waterfall base, there is a rock you can stand on. There is dim light, so it is good for ambushes. The team that controls the spartan laser has complete control over vehicles. You should stand on the base and fire at all vehicles that come over the hill. The slope in front of each base can be climber. This is often the fastest route to the enemy flag or to arm the bomb. DO NOT let a nublet pilot grab the banshee. This vehicle can often make or break the battle, and has a long respawn time. Always attempt to hijack enemy vehicles, except for mongooses. hijacking the banshee or wraith gives a big short time advantage. COMING IN A WHILE! Foundry, Ratsnest, and Standoff! |
